Considering Purchasing a New Mattress?

It is important to your health to get a good night’s sleep.  Experts in sleep science recommend that we get eight hours of sleep each night.  That’s hard to do when you are tossing and turning on an old mattress.  Another recommendation made by professionals in sleep science is that you do not keep a mattress for longer than ten years.  The suggested life span of a mattress is roughly eight to ten years.  At eight years, you should begin to regularly inspect your mattress for wear and tear.  Since you’ve slept on the same mattress each night for many years, you have become accustomed to the mattress making it difficult to feel a significant difference.  It’s similar to seeing an old friend whom you haven’t seen in quite a while.  They may look completely different to you but to those who have seen the person on a daily basis, they do not notice the significant changes as well.  If your body has aches and pains, and you have a difficult time waking up in the mornings, your mattress may be the culprit.  By inspecting your mattress, in addition to assessing your health and the way your body feels, you can determine if you need to purchase a new mattress.

While inspecting your mattress, you will want to check for any dents, lumps, bumps or sagging.  Generally, if your mattress shows any of these signs it can greatly affect your ability to get a good night’s sleep.  Your body needs to be properly supported and comfortable in order to sleep adequately throughout the night.  Support is essential for good spine health and the musculoskeletal system.  Comfort is important as well and is different than support.  Many people confuse the two and think they mean the same thing.  However, they do not.  Comfort is the softness of the top layer while support is from the construction of the mattress.  The comfort level can make a difference in how pressure points are alleviated or worsened.  This is a personal preference but usually determined by the favored sleeping position.  If you are unsure, visit a mattress showroom and try out various mattress comfort and support levels.

Before purchasing your new mattress, you should take measurements of your bed to ensure that you purchase the correct size mattress.  Small double beds are 4ft beds and many people confuse this size with other sizes.  Single mattresses are slightly narrower than small doubles while doubles are slightly larger.  You also want to know if you will need to purchase a box spring for the mattress or if the mattress only needs supported by slats.  Some beds do not need box springs, so make sure you purchase the correct type of mattress for the construction of your bed.

If you have been putting off buying a new mattress because you don’t think your finances can pay for a large purchase, think again.  Mattresses are affordable and in you can find cheap double beds in low price ranges at Mattress Next Day.  Since Mattress Next Day is an ecommerce store, savings of overhead costs and sales personnel are passed along to the customers.  You will be able to have your new mattress delivered the very next day which means saying goodbye to long restless nights and hello to snoozing soundly.
